English Enrichment for Home Educators

English teaching that works around your child, not a curriculum

Home education gives children something schools rarely can: the freedom to learn at their own pace, follow their own interests and develop as genuine thinkers. My role is to bring structured, expert English teaching into that space, without replicating the pressures of the classroom.

I work with home-educated students across a wide range of ages and abilities, offering flexible, individualised sessions that are built entirely around each child's needs, interests and goals.

Enrichment courses in small groups

My themed modules are available to home-educated students in small daytime groups. Six sessions per half-term, up to six students per group — £150 per student per course. These can form the English spine of your week or sit comfortably alongside whatever else you're doing. Students bring different perspectives to the discussion, and that variety makes the learning richer for everyone.

What Sessions Can Cover

There is no fixed curriculum here. Sessions are shaped by the student in front of me and what will genuinely benefit them. Depending on your child's age, stage and interests, we might focus on:

Reading and Literary Study

  • Developing close reading skills and the ability to write analytically about texts

  • Exploring a wide range of literature — novels, poetry, short stories, non-fiction

  • Building a genuine love of reading alongside the ability to think and write about it carefully

Creative Writing

  • Finding a writing voice and learning to use it with confidence

  • Experimenting with different forms: narrative, descriptive, poetry, personal essay

  • Developing craft: structure, language, rhythm, detail and revision

Essay Writing and Argument

  • Learning to construct a clear, well-reasoned written argument

  • Developing analytical skills that will serve students across all subjects

  • Building confidence with extended writing at any level

English Language and Communication

  • Strengthening grammar, vocabulary and written expression

  • Developing the ability to write clearly and precisely for different purposes and audiences

  • Building spoken confidence through discussion and structured conversation

GCSE and A-Level Preparation

  • For home-educated students working towards formal qualifications, I offer full GCSE and A-Level tuition alongside enrichment work

    How It Works

Sessions are available during the day, which suits the rhythms of most home-educating families.

Because every home-educated student is different, I always begin with an informal conversation with parents and, where appropriate, the student themselves. This helps me understand what your child has already covered, what they enjoy, where they find things difficult and what you are hoping sessions will achieve.

From there, I put together a flexible plan that can evolve as your child progresses. There are no rigid schemes of work and no unnecessary pressure, just purposeful, enjoyable sessions with a clear sense of direction.

One-to-one sessions are £55 per hour. Where two or more friends or siblings want to learn together, paired or group sessions are available at £35 per student — the same quality of teaching at a lower cost per student.

Fees are due half-termly although flexible payment may be available depending on your child’s needs.

Getting in Touch

If you would like to find out more, please get in touch for an informal chat. There is no obligation and no pressure, just an honest conversation about whether this could be the right fit for your child.
