GCSE & IGCSE Core Skills (10:30 AM – 11:30 AM)

Designed for private candidates sitting any UK exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, Eduqas, or Cambridge IGCSE).

• MONDAYS @ 10:30 AM: Cracking Unseen Texts (Language & Structure Analysis) Focus: Active reading under timed conditions, decoding fiction and non-fiction extracts, and mastering language and structural analysis without panic.

• TUESDAYS @ 10:30 AM: Crafting Grade 7–9 Essays (Structure, Thesis & Argument) Focus: Moving beyond basic PEE paragraphs into fluid, thesis-led essays. Students learn natural quotation embedding, sophisticated analytical verbs, and structural planning.

• THURSDAYS @ 10:30 AM: Viewpoint & Transactional Writing (Speeches, Articles & Persuasion) Focus: Mastering paper 2 persuasive tasks. Building compelling arguments, manipulating tone, and applying high-level vocabulary and technical accuracy.

How Differentiation Works in Skills Sessions:

English exam skills are universal across all grades. In these small groups, I use a "low floor, high ceiling" approach. Struggling students receive clear sentence frames and structured steps to lock in a solid Grade 4–5 pass, while high-achievers receive extension prompts, advanced vocabulary, and thesis-building strategies to push for Grades 7–9.

Literature & Creative Enrichment (11:45 AM – 12:45 PM)

Designed for ages 11–15 (KS3 & early KS4) wanting rich intellectual engagement without exam pressures, mark schemes, or rigid grades.

• MONDAYS @ 11:45 AM: Monsters, Villains & Anti-Heroes Focus: Exploring famous literary antagonists from Frankenstein and gothic classics to modern anti-heroes. Deconstructing what makes a compelling villain and crafting character studies.

• TUESDAYS @ 11:45 AM: Dystopian Worlds & Oppressive Futures Focus: Examining classic dystopian texts (1984, Fahrenheit 451, modern YA fiction) to see how writers critique real-world issues. Building an original setting and writing opening chapters.

• THURSDAYS @ 11:45 AM: The Power of the Pen (Speeches, Rhetoric & Debate) Focus: Analysing world-changing speeches, historical pamphlets, and modern activism. Students learn the mechanics of persuasion and write/deliver a piece on a topic they care about deeply.
